AN APRIL DAY, by FLORENCE COPLEY WHITE First Line: An april day and summer in the air Last Line: For april leads the summer back again. Subject(s): April; Happiness; Pleasure; Spring; Joy; Delight | ||||||||
An April day and summer in the air, The flit of busy wings, a mellow call From bough to bough: the tulips growing tall In grasses silken soft; and everywhere An eager, breathless waiting: sudden flare Of white magnolia blossoms where a wall Makes weathered background patterned with the scrawl Of ivy vines close-linked like tangled hair. An April day and summer in my blood, A riotous delirium of joy Quick swelling into overwhelming flood Of all-pervading pleasure that in vain The gods themselves would venture to destroy, For April leads the summer back again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE STUDY OF HAPPINESS by KENNETH KOCH SO MUCH HAPPINESS by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE CROWD CONDITIONS by JOHN ASHBERY I WILL NOT BE CLAIMED by MARVIN BELL THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#21): 1.
