IF HEARTS ARE DUST, by JAMES TERRY WHITE Poet's Biography First Line: If hearts are dust, hearts' loves remain Last Line: If hearts are dust. Subject(s): Immortality | ||||||||
If hearts are dust, hearts' loves remain, And somewhere, far beyond the plane Of earthly thought, beyond the sea That bounds this life, they will meet thee, And hold thee face to face again; And when is done life's restless reign, If I hereafter but regain Heart's love, why should I troubled be If hearts are dust? By love's indissoluble chain I know the grave does not retain Heart's love; the very faith in me Is pledge of an eternity, Where I shall find heart's love again, If hearts are dust. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WALLACE STEVENS' LETTERS by ROBERT BLY DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING by DAVID IGNATOW I CLOSE MY EYES by DAVID IGNATOW IN 'DESIGNING A CLOAK TO CLOAK HIS DESIGNS' YOU WRESTED FROM OBLIVION by MARIANNE MOORE THE THINGS THAT DIE by GREGORY ORR THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON YOUTH'S IMMORTALITY by GEORGE SANTAYANA CONSUMMATION by JAMES TERRY WHITE NOT BY BREAD ALONE by JAMES TERRY WHITE AFTER TU FU (THEY SAY YOU'RE STAYING IN A MOUNTAIN TEMPLE) by MARVIN BELL |
