YOUTH: A SONG OF ADOLESCENCE, by MARY ABIGAIL WHITE First Line: Why do I want to run away Last Line: Of wind swept hills and desert trails? Subject(s): Adolescence; Teen Agers | ||||||||
Why do I want to run away, To be alone and free and gay? Why do I love adventure so -- To climb tall mountains capped with snow, To sail an angry sea of green And feel that salt wind fresh and clean, To ride long wastes of desert sand On horse, like winds that never land, To sleep beneath a desert sky -- The quiet stars, the moon, and I? Am I a Gypsy out of place -- One of that wistful, wilful race: A lover of those wandering ways -- Of quiet nights and carefree days: A dreamer of forgotten tales -- Of wind swept hills and desert trails? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN by DORIANNE LAUX PORTRAIT OF A GIRL WITH COMIC BOOK by PHYLLIS MCGINLEY THE ONE GIRL AT THE BOYS PARTY by SHARON OLDS CHERRYLOG ROAD by JAMES DICKEY BROTHER AND SISTER by MARY ANN EVANS ADOLESCENCE by MAVIS CLARE BARNETT AMOUR by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON A SHORT SONG OF CONGRATULATION by SAMUEL JOHNSON (1709-1784) |
