SONNET TO WINTER, by
First Line: For every sorrow, every faded thing
Last Line: I scent the honeysuckle in the lane.
Subject(s): Sonnet (as Literary Form); Winter

For every sorrow, every faded thing,
Exultant joy will ride again this way;
Full soon will come the softly shaded spring,
(Grim winter always dreams a dream of May!)
Though robes of icy sleet enfold the earth,
Yet . . . inwardly the heart may still rejoice,
Forgetting sullen days, heart-broken dearth,
Hearing in dreams the sound of summer's voice.
Courage abides in happy hearts held high,
As fireflies lift their little lamps at night . . .
The steadfast stars gleam in the somber sky,
Transmuting paths of dusk to silver bright.
I thank Thee, that beyond the cold and pain,
I scent the honeysuckle in the lane.
