SONNET TO WINTER, by STELLA MUSE WHITEHEAD First Line: For every sorrow, every faded thing Last Line: I scent the honeysuckle in the lane. Subject(s): Sonnet (as Literary Form); Winter | ||||||||
For every sorrow, every faded thing, Exultant joy will ride again this way; Full soon will come the softly shaded spring, (Grim winter always dreams a dream of May!) Though robes of icy sleet enfold the earth, Yet . . . inwardly the heart may still rejoice, Forgetting sullen days, heart-broken dearth, Hearing in dreams the sound of summer's voice. Courage abides in happy hearts held high, As fireflies lift their little lamps at night . . . The steadfast stars gleam in the somber sky, Transmuting paths of dusk to silver bright. I thank Thee, that beyond the cold and pain, I scent the honeysuckle in the lane. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOOKING EAST IN THE WINTER by JOHN HOLLANDER WINTER DISTANCES by FANNY HOWE WINTER FORECAST by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN AT WINTER'S EDGE by JUDY JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 34 by JAMES JOYCE |
