THY SMILE, by RUTH TABER WHITTLESEY First Line: Like petals wafted on the breeze at night Last Line: As we see fruits that follow thy sweet smile. Subject(s): Smiles | ||||||||
Like petals wafted on the breeze at night, Thy smile -- with glimpse of teardrop shining through, Like almond petals in the pale moonlight, Or apple blossoms touched with early dew; So brave thy smile when every hope has flown! So like the almond blossom in the wind, Blown here and there and choosing not its own -- Forgetting the rich beauty left behind. Recalling not the hope of budding leaf, Forgetting that rose glory of full bloom, The separating petals part in grief To spread afar their pungent sweet perfume. They know that fruits will follow in awhile, As we see fruits that follow thy sweet smile. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ANGEL'S WHISPER by SAMUEL LOVER SONG OF THREE SMILES by WILLIAM STANLEY MERWIN COMPENSATIONS by CHRISTOPHER BANNISTER MEARY'S SMILE by WILLIAM BARNES THE LAUGHING WOMAN by WILLIAM ROSE BENET LOVE IN EXILE 2: 4 by MATHILDE BLIND |
