WHO shall awaken first,—the saucy quean,
The mother of my soul, august and mild,
The passionate lover, the fixed friend, the keen
Woman of affairs, the absurd and humorous child?
Who of them all shall, come, ah! who shall come
When first her mind feels morning, when she feels,—
Sweet, when we feel ourselves again become!
What now is slipped from me, slips from me, steals
I cannot tell where ... But now, my mind is so clear,
You are so warm and close, so warm I lie,
That now is the time to think great things; with you near,
I feel such thoughts as I never had go by ...
Such deep things ... and presently tell you what I knew,
So warm and close, so close and so warm are you.
