NIGHT, by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: Houses -- / the dark side silhouetted Last Line: "what do I care!" Subject(s): Night | ||||||||
Houses -- the dark side silhouetted on flashes of moonlight! The air -- full of invisible snow! At the end of the street -- chrysanthemums in a lighted window: white and pink globes in clusters massed! They grow clearer nearer . . . nearer! I will reach them! ! (if I continue) The window is full of flowers -- more than I imagined . . . They are gone! The flower girl has switched off the light. Moon-shine street lamps in my face.
