A SERAPH DESCENDS, by FRANK WILMOT Poet's Biography First Line: If we do fail in this Last Line: As I have served your whim. Alternate Author Name(s): Maurice, Furnley | ||||||||
IF we do fail in this, Then 'twas not love that failed -- Something hath gone amiss, Some influence hath assailed, Some treacherous pretence Submerged our spirits' bounds Till we've lost confidence And bay with stranger hounds. If you do fail me here Make things eternal, brief, There is no earthly tear Will tell my depth of grief. My heart lived where the skies Mould worlds of cloud and flame; I came down to your eyes, To your strange town I came. And if you fail me now, Misjudge me and misread, I have nowhere to go And wander lone indeed. Our linked souls obey Commands of differing faith, So life hath many a way More difficult than death. I had no need desire A smile on Jesus' face, Had not your eyes afire Drawn me unto this place; I had no need compel Compassionate tears from Him Had I served God as well As I have served your whim. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...APPLES IN THE MOON by FRANK WILMOT BEAUTY OF THE WORLD by FRANK WILMOT CHANCE MEETING by FRANK WILMOT EL GAI SABER (CHANT ROYAL) by FRANK WILMOT |
