SPREAD THE SHEET TO THE WIND, by HUGH C. WILSON First Line: Spread the sheet to the wind, let's away, let's away! Last Line: Spread the sheet to the wind, let's be merry to-night. Subject(s): Sailing & Sailors | ||||||||
SPREAD the sheet to the wind, let's away, let's away! See the moon in her pride shining soft in the bay; Let us skirt where the shade of the rocks bathe in light, Spread the sheet to the wind, let's be merry to-night. How my heart rises up with each pulse of the tide! And the light sparkles clear on the wave's foaming side. Now the land fades away, my lads, steadily, ho! With the blue sky above and the blue waves below. Spread the sheet to the wind, to the oar, to the oar! Let the murmur of song in a dream reach the shore. With the breeze blowing fresh, the waves rolling in light, Spread the sheet to the wind, let's be merry to-night. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EASTERN LONG ISLAND by MARVIN BELL SAILS OF MURMUR by ANSELM HOLLO LOST ABOARD U.S.S.
