WHY FLIRT WITH FATE, by ILEY WINN First Line: Our wicked acts we would like Last Line: Memory hears your last sad rites read. Subject(s): Memory | ||||||||
Our wicked acts we would like To be forgiven -- we very much dislike Mention of them, it ever harries, With the menace that memory carries. As they so often cruelly remind you, That they can't be left behind you, Matters not how slyly you connive, The memory of your past will survive! You may make yourself silly on dope, Others' minds are keen, there's no hope. They'd forget secrets they love to share With others, who'd tell it everywhere. Gossip wouldn't paint your record white, Even shadows shy at public limelight; By your yearning wish be not misled, Memory hears your last sad rites read. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MEMORY AS A HEARING AID by TONY HOAGLAND THE SAME QUESTION by JOHN HOLLANDER FORGET HOW TO REMEMBER HOW TO FORGET by JOHN HOLLANDER ON THAT SIDE by LAWRENCE JOSEPH MEMORY OF A PORCH by DONALD JUSTICE BEYOND THE HUNTING WOODS by DONALD JUSTICE |
