PALM SUNDAY, by MAY HAMMOND WITTERS First Line: Dear master: I've no palms to strew upon Last Line: Is my savior pacing off the miles to calvary -- for me. Subject(s): Christianity | ||||||||
Dear Master: I've no palms to strew upon the way for Thy triumphal passing along the road today; but yesterday I cleaned the floors, and made the windows shine, and comforted one aged. Oh, please accept as Thine, These homely things. They are not much, but they were done for love. Accept them as my offering, dear Son of God above! I swept my soul of dark desire, for I want to be as lovely for Thy passing as Thou would'st have me be. I put two red geraniums on the front window seat, and the blossoms seemed great drops of blood upon Thy hands and feet. My work, my love, my life, are very small to give To One who died upon a cross -- that I might live. Today, through shining windows, all my dim eyes can see is my Savior pacing off the miles to Calvary -- for me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EL GRECO: ESPOLIO by EARL (EARLE) BIRNEY RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION by MINA LOY THE INCARNATE ONE by EDWIN MUIR OUR LADY OF ARDBOE by PAUL MULDOON LITTLE WHITE CHURCH by MARILYN NELSON |
