Dear Lord, when Grandpa Stiles knocks at Your door, I pray You let him find an entrance there. His wife awaits him -- they were a lovely pair; With her he'll not be lonely anymore. He was a good man, God, oh, well I know. I've heard him sing Your praise throughout the day; And every night when he would kneel to pray, He always held his Bible he loved so. Let Grandma Stiles be first to welcome him, Then gently lead him to the saints of old, Of whom he talked, who walk the streets of gold. (But guide his steps, dear God, his eyes are dim.) And God, because he loved his clay pipe so, Oh, give him one. It will please him lots, I know. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE END OF LIFE by PHILIP JAMES BAILEY SEVEN TWILIGHTS: 6 by CONRAD AIKEN THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#19): 2.
