SIC SEMPER, by ROBERT LEOPOLD WOLF First Line: Goliath beat his breast and curled his beard Last Line: Sat polishing a rounded pebble smooth. Subject(s): Goliath | ||||||||
Goliath beat his breast and curled his beard, Disguised his egotism with small i's. Wrote free verse for the Broom, so I have heard, Press-agented himself in every wise. One hairy ear cupped in a hairy paw Alert for every veer or passing whim. . . . Goliath painted blue his lower jaw -- It made the editors stare after him. Colossally he strode, while critics gaped; Reluctant artists hurried home, revised Their outworn methods, imitated, aped, Goliathisms everywhere were prized! But David, unsophisticated youth, Sat polishing a rounded pebble smooth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE HELMET OF GOLIATH by ROBERT DUNCAN DAVIDEIS, A SACRED POEM OF THE TROUBLES OF DAVID: BOOK 3 by ABRAHAM COWLEY SONG OF VICTORY, FOR THE DEATH OF GOLIATH by LUCRETIA MARIA DAVIDSON DAVID AND GOLIATH by THOMAS STURGE MOORE DAVID AND GOLIATH by JOHN BANISTER TABB DAVID AND GOLIATH by PRISCILLA JANE THOMPSON GOLIATH AND THE BARBARIANS by ALBERT GOLDBARTH IN THE BEGINNING by ROBERT LEOPOLD WOLF |
