THE FROST ELVES, by MARY L. WOLVERTON First Line: In the solemn stillness of the winter nights Last Line: The merry frost-elves go. Subject(s): Courtship | ||||||||
IN the solemn stillness of the winter nights, When the sky is sparkling with its frost of stars, Up from every snow-drift come the tiny sprites Who tell in fairy frost-work tales of elfin-land. Merrily they frolic In the dim starlight, Casting flickering shadows With their robes of white; Building airy castles Along the water's edge, Scattering elfin diamonds On every bush and hedge; Painting on our windows, With many a dainty stroke, The glistening hills and valleys Where dwell the gay frost folk. When the first stray sunbeam Comes glimmering o'er the snow, Back to the earth like snow-flakes The merry frost-elves go. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AS YOU WALK OUT ONE MORNING by GLYN MAXWELL TALE OF THE MAYOR'S SON by GLYN MAXWELL THE RIVALS by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON MARJORIE'S WOOING by EMMA LAZARUS THE FORTUNATE SPILL by MARILYN NELSON REQUEST TO LEDA by DYLAN THOMAS |
