THERE is a pathway glorious To the angels' happy home, Where the thousands gone before us, Are now waiting till we come. Emanuel's love hath made it, From the cross to yonder sky; In his sorrows deep he laid it, And the Father bringeth nigh. Safely through the dreaded river, I can trust the pierced hand, (For his promise faileth never) Till I reach the spotless Land. All my griefs are clouds refreshing, That dissolve in tearful showers; And behind them comes the blessing Of the sunlight and the flow'rs. From the mountain top in glory, I shall wonderingly survey, All my life's unfinish'd story, In the light of perfect day. Every conflict won by daring In the battlefields of years, Will bring trophies worth the wearing, When the jewell'd crown appears. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY |
