THE BARN, by MARY S. WOTKYNS First Line: Alone it stands upon a wind - swept hill Last Line: And glorified a barn in bethlehem. Subject(s): Barns | ||||||||
Alone it stands upon a wind-swept hill; The fields below are white with drifted snow; Moss-grown its sagging roof; its sides and sill Fashioned by strong hands so long ago. Swinging upon its rusty broken hinge The weather-beaten door is open wide, Speaking of by-gone hospitality To friendly beasts it sheltered once inside. And looking in, beyond the open door Come memories of a wondrous evening when Two weary travelers refuge sought -- and found, And glorified a barn in Bethlehem. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE OLD BARN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FOGS by ROBERT FROST THE HAYLOFT by ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON LOFT AT NIGHT by VIRGINIA ABEL THE BARN by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN DARK LOVELY FRUIT by HELEN BRYANT THE OLD BARN by MADISON JULIUS CAWEIN |
