THE BARN, by
First Line: Alone it stands upon a wind - swept hill
Last Line: And glorified a barn in bethlehem.
Subject(s): Barns

Alone it stands upon a wind-swept hill;
The fields below are white with drifted snow;
Moss-grown its sagging roof; its sides and sill
Fashioned by strong hands so long ago.

Swinging upon its rusty broken hinge
The weather-beaten door is open wide,
Speaking of by-gone hospitality
To friendly beasts it sheltered once inside.

And looking in, beyond the open door
Come memories of a wondrous evening when
Two weary travelers refuge sought -- and found,
And glorified a barn in Bethlehem.
