Faded not, nor fading, pictures bright In a realm unseen by common sight; Countless children live, and move, and prove All the constancy of mother love. Though the years dim mother's mortal view, Memory's eye remains forever true, Giving to her soul the power to see All her children as they used to be. Though her ear be soundless, she can hear Laughing voices ringing sweet and clear, As her mind repeats their words and songs E'en amid the din of outward throngs. Seeing, hearing, feeling, all may go; Death-claimed be her person. Even so, Still in some fair place, all dimness clear, Angel arms can draw her children near. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A FRIEND KILLED IN THE WAR by ANTHONY HECHT FOR JAMES MERRILL: AN ADIEU by ANTHONY HECHT TARANTULA: OR THE DANCE OF DEATH by ANTHONY HECHT CHAMPS D?ÇÖHONNEUR by ERNEST HEMINGWAY NOTE TO REALITY by TONY HOAGLAND FOR THE NEW YEAR by EDWIN MARKHAM |
