Rock-a-by, rock-a-by, little brown baby,
Safe on the green branch so high,
Shut your bright black eyes and go to sleep, baby,
While the wood-wind sings, "Hush-a-by-by."

"Hush-a-by-hush," 'tis the voice of the forest,
"Hush-a-by-hush," the leaves seem to say,
"Hush-a-by-hush," sing the wild birds in chorus,
Up in the tree-tops so far, far away.

Rock-a-by, rock-a-by, swinging so gently,
See, from the dark woods so cool and so deep,
The little gray squirrel, the timid brown rabbit,
Are coming to see if papoose is asleep.

Mother will watch by her little brown baby,
Swinging aloft on the green branch so high,
No harm can come to the little brown baby,
Hush-a-by, rock-a-by, hush-a-by-by.
