LOVE IS A BOG, by ANONYMOUS First Line: "love is a bog, a deep bog, and a wide bog" Last Line: And dwells in the house of melancholy Subject(s): Love - Nature Of;melancholy; Dejection | ||||||||
LOVE is a bog, a deep bog, and a wide bog; Love is a clog, a great clog, and a close clog; 'Tis a wilderness to lose ourselves, And a halter 'tis to noose ourselves: Then draw dun out of the mire, And throw the clog i' th' fire. Keep in the kings high-way Sober, and you cannot stray. If you admire no female elf, The halter may go hang itself. Drink wine and be merry, for love is folly, And dwells in the house of melancholy. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BALLAD OF THE LADIES OF OLDEN TIMES by FRANCOIS VILLON THE FOUR HUMOURS by RAFAEL CAMPO DEJECTION by ROBERT SEYMOUR BRIDGES THE DEATH OF THE FLOWERS by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT DEJECTION: AN ODE by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE MELANCHOLIA by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR TIS A LITTLE JOURNEY by ANONYMOUS |
