THE MESSAGE OF THE NEW YEAR, by ANONYMOUS First Line: I asked the new year for some message Last Line: God's will to love Subject(s): Holidays;new Year | ||||||||
I asked the New Year for some message sweet, Some rule of life with which to guide my feet; I asked, and paused: he answered soft and low, "God's will to know." "Will knowledge then suffice, New Year?" I cried; And, ere the question into silence died, The answer came, "Nay, but remember, too, God's will to do." Once more I asked, "Is there no more to tell?" And once again the answer sweetly fell, "Yes! this thing, all other things above: God's will to love." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NEW YEAR'S POEM by MARGARET AVISON A SPEED OF HISTORY by MARGARET AVISON NEW YEAR'S DAY by DAVID LEHMAN LINES FOR THE NEW YEAR by JULIE CARR I AM RUNNING INTO A NEW YEAR by LUCILLE CLIFTON FOR THE NEW YEAR (2) by ROBERT CREELEY TIS A LITTLE JOURNEY by ANONYMOUS |
