DOMESTIC SONG by DAVID IGNATOW

Poet Analysis

First Line: MY LOVELY ROSE WHO FORGIVES ME
Last Line: AS TO HAVE A ROSE FOR HIS WOMAN
Subject(s): LOVE – MARITAL;

Our lives are broken up like bread
to be swallowed at breakfast,
feasted on at lunch
and downed for dinner.

At night we sleep
for the miracle of waking
whole again and free
and like the sun
find ourselves
on the same path
towards dismemberment.
