MOTHS by DAVID IGNATOW

Poet Analysis

First Line: HE SEES ONE FLUTTERING ACROSS THE ROOM
Last Line: OUT UPON THE FLOOR BENEATH SILENT, GRAY OUTSPREAD WINGS
Subject(s): MOTHS;

I am here.
Am I in the councils of the government?
I ask because I do not hear my name
spoken as I sit at my desk.
I do not hear myself being called
or discussed. Looking up
from my window, I think the
sky is as detached as I am
from my life
and perhaps for the same reason.
