THE EAGLE; A FRAGMENT by ALFRED TENNYSON

Poem Explanation Poet Analysis

First Line: HE CLASPS THE CRAG WITH CROOKED [OR, HOOKED] HANDS
Last Line: AND LIKE A THUNDERBOLT HE FALLS.
Subject(s): BIRDS; EAGLES;

HE clasps the crag with hooked [or crooked] hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ringed with the azure world, he stands.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.
