ON BUTLER'S MONUMENT [IN WESTMINSTER] by SAMUEL WESLEY

First Line: WHILE BUTLER, NEEDY WRETCH, WAS YET ALIVE
Last Line: HE ASK'D FOR BREAD, AND HE RECEIVED A STONE.
Subject(s): BUTLER, SAMUEL (1612-1680); WESTMINSTER ABBEY;

WHILE Butler, needy wretch, was yet alive,
No generous patron would a dinner give.
See him, when starved to death and turn'd to dust,
Presented with a monumental bust.
The poet's fate is here in emblem shown --
He ask'd for @3bread,@1 and he received a @3stone@1.
