I LIKE to hear—yes, yes!—I like to hear
The music of a big brass band.
I love the tone
Of the slide trombone [@3Bus. of slide trombone@1]
And the saxophone [@3Bus. of saxophone@1]
So grand.
But I want to be
General utility—
I want to try
That baby-cry [@3Bus. of baby-cry@1];
Want to play the rattle [@3Bus. of rattle@1] and the castanet [@3Bus. of
castanet@1];
Want to bang the tom-tom [@3Bus. of tom-tom@1] and the tambourette [@3Bus. of
tambourette@1];
Want to jangle
That old triangle [@3Bus. of triangle@1];
Cut a caper
With the old sandpaper [@3Bus. of sandpaper@1];
Ring those sleighbells [@3Bus. of sleighbells@1] and those chimes [@3Bus. of
chimes@1]
And crack that whip [@3Bus. of whip@1] about a million times.
I want to beat that thunder-sheet [@3Bus. of thunder-sheet@1]
I like the smash of the old glass-crash [@3Bus. of glass-crash@1]
I want to go on—yes, go on—
I want to go on—yes, go on—
I want to go on a musical jag!
I want to have a symphonical souse
Like a syncopated [@3Bus. of syncope@1] Richard Strauss.
I want to play—hooray!—
All day—hooray!—
With facility
And agility
That General Utility
Ra-a-a-g!
