A WOMAN by JOHN C. ADLER

First Line: GOLD IN THE SUNLIGHT
Last Line: BE THE WOMAN I LOVE?
Subject(s): BEAUTY; WOMEN;

Gold in the sunlight,
And gray in the wind,
Stands a woman.
Her body is bright,
And her hair is blowing;
Why must she surrender
To the colors
Of the day?

The same with
Her laughing eyes:
They love too much;
Everywhere laughing,
Loving whatever they see.
And yet,
They are eyes
Which could darken with pain.

The entire woman,
Sobbingly beautiful;
Why must she run
Lightly through living,
She who will soon
Be the woman I love?
