THE SPROUTING BOARD by AL-ISRA'ILI

First Line: YOUR CHEEKS WERE OH HOW FAIR
Last Line: REVEALS ITS WICK IS BLACK.

Your cheeks were oh how fair,
How full of glowing grace
Until that sprouted there,
Your beauty to deface.

And then your cheeks became
A candle that, alack
Extinguishing its flame,
Reveals its wick is black.
