ANTIMENIDAS by ALCAEUS OF MYTILENE

First Line: FRIEND, YOU HAVE COME FROM THE WORLD'S END HOME
Last Line: SAVE A SPAN.

FRIEND, you have come from the world's end home
With an ivory hilt to your blade
Gold-inlaid; for you fought
Among Babylon's ranks and you wrought
In their need, a great deed,
When you slew in the fight
A redoubtable man
Who was five royal cubits in height
Save a span.
