EVENING by ISABELLA LOCKHART ALDERMAN

First Line: A GRAY CLOUD, ETCHED AGAINST THE SKY
Last Line: AS IT SINKS TO REST. AND DAY IS DONE.
Subject(s): EVENING; SUNSET; TWILIGHT;

A gray cloud, etched against the sky,
Is a crusader riding by
With plumed helmet and gleaming mail
Searching still for the Holy Grail.
The sun is low but one last ray
Burnishes bright his suit of gray.
A falcon chained to gauntleted wrist,
Secures his perch on knightly fist
And screams defiance to the sun
As it sinks to rest. And day is done.
