WEDDED (PROVENCAL AIR) by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH

Poet Analysis

First Line: THE HAPPY BELLS SHALL RING
Last Line: MARGUERITE.
Subject(s): MARRIAGE; WEDDINGS; HUSBANDS; WIVES;

THE happy bells shall ring,
Marguerite;
The summer birds shall sing,
Marguerite --
You smile, but you shall wear
Orange-blossoms in your hair,
Marguerite.

Ah me! the bells have rung,
Marguerite;
The summer birds have sung,
Marguerite --
But cypress leaf and rue
Make a sorry wreath for you,
Marguerite.
