FABLE by RUBY FRANCE ALDRIDGE

First Line: I HEARD YOU SINGING
Last Line: WAS IN MY FACE, LIKE A GREAT AMEN.

I heard you singing,
And cool, cool hands
Pressed down my fevered thoughts.

I heard you weeping,
And pain, like a slim
Stiletto, ate into my heart.

I heard you praying,
And the breath of God
Was in my face, like a great Amen.
