Oh, for the solitude of space! Green fields that curve and dip and rise Dotted with daisies and queen's lace Shaded by trees that reach the skies. Where I can set my caged soul free And watch it soar from off the ground, The while the earthiness of me Merges into the grasses round. Till the clean beauty of the scene Fills all my empty aching lack And I am part of the vast green And cannot call my free soul back. Then will you look for me in vain, Though I am there beneath your feet. And when I smile at sun or rain Will say, right here, just smell how sweet! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOHANNA PEDERSEN by KAREN SWENSON THE THREE LITTLE KITTENS (A CAT'S TALE, WITH ADDITIONS) by ELIZA LEE CABOT FOLLEN TO THE REPUBLIC by JAMES GALVIN THE ILIAD: ACHILLES OVER THE TRENCH by HOMER TO AMARANTHA, THAT SHE WOULD DISHEVEL HER HAIR by RICHARD LOVELACE HORATIUS [AT THE BRIDGE], FR.
