Oh, world, sometimes I cannot bear the load Of pain and sorrow laid upon my heart, My footsteps falter on the lonely road, And tears well up from hidden springs apart. I do not know the meaning of the thorn, The armored bough that bears a tender flower, Or why the song on fitful breezes borne, Is fraught with ecstasy for scarce an hour. I only know, oh world, when all is weighed Against one radiant, pulsing day in spring, When trees march up a hill in white arrayed, And life comes surging back to everything, I'll gladly walk the lonely road of pain, If I can see a May day born again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JEALOUS by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR MARY MAGDALEN by BARTOLOME LEONARDO DE ARGENSOLA COMMENDATORY VERSE FOR THE FAERIE QUEENE by H.
