LIFE'S LITTLE DAY by MARY BALL ARMSTRONG

First Line: OVER THE MISTY HILLS AT EVENING TIME
Last Line: COOLNESS, AND QUIET, AND A LONELY CRY.

Over the misty hills at evening-time,
In level light, a golden stillness falls;
Out of the reeds beside the sleeping stream
Tremulous, faint, a wandering night-bird calls.

The flaming red of morning led to this;
Ended in this, the threatening, stormy sky;
It was for this, the long hours' heat and strife,
Coolness, and quiet, and a lonely cry.
