HIMALAYA by WILLIMINA L. ARMSTRONG

First Line: I STOOD UPON A PINNACLE OF STONE
Last Line: I FELT THE MAJESTY OF NATURE WAIT.
Subject(s): HIMALAYAS (MOUNTAINS);

I stood upon a pinnacle of stone,
And saw a day advance upon the world:
The reach of distance brooded there alone,
A width of darkness in the deep was furled;
Across the bounden front of outer space,
A breath of motion drew one veil aside
To let the inarticulate of grace
Upon an avalanche of question ride.
There sealed Silence kept her limpid jar
Of potency ineffable -- restraint --
And Life, the all-abundant, from afar,
Poured resurrection on the last complaint.
And there, in awful mystery of state,
I felt the majesty of nature wait.
