ILLITERATE by LILIAN ARNOLD

First Line: WHY CAN YOU NOT READ
Last Line: IN SYLLABLES THAT RHAPSODIZE?
Subject(s): ILLITERACY;

Why can you not read
The language of my eyes?
Blatant words alone you heed,
Blind, blind to my silent cries.

Catch the message at its source,
It loses sweetness in transit
As the river in its course
Lacks freshness at its outlet.

Why can you not read
The language of my eyes?
Must I blazon forth my need
In syllables that rhapsodize?
