It is not good for man to be alone, It oft produces gloomy thoughts that dwell Too much on self, and issues that but swell The crop of evils which none can atone; Nor can the ecstasy which one may feel, When by himself he climbs to heights sublime, And dreams of glories on the wings of time Ward off the nightmare of one lonesome meal. Then it is better with the crowd to go, Than to be lonesome and apart the while; To gain those blessings which the others know, To see their sorrows and enjoy their smile; Then in their laughter, we forget ourselves, And elves of trouble hie them to the shelves. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOPE (1) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON BALLAD OF HUMAN LIFE by THOMAS LOVELL BEDDOES |
