IN THE DEEP WHITE SNOW by ANNE ATWOOD

First Line: THEY HEARD MY FOOTSTEPS FAINT AND LOW
Last Line: BY THE SLIM WHITE TREES.
Subject(s): SNOW;

They heard my footsteps faint and low,
And three deer wheeled in the forest breeze,
In the deep white snow
By the slim, white trees.
They stood like nymphs on a Grecian frieze.
Or like three lilies in a row
By the slim white trees
In the deep white snow,
With the eyes of the Child born long ago --
And I, a sinner, fell on my knees
In the deep white snow,
By the slim white trees.
