THE CALL OF THE DESERT by EMILY BALDWIN

First Line: CAMELS KNEELING IN THE DESERT
Last Line: BUT TO DESERT-DWELLERS KNOWN.
Subject(s): DESERTS; FOOD & EATING;

Camels kneeling in the desert,
Arabs calling this their home,
Hills of sand are daily shifting,
Sun relentless, haughty, burning,
Glaring, from a flaming throne.

Only men and camels venture
To subdue this thirsty waste;
Maybe here they see a beauty
But to desert-dwellers known.
