WHO KNOWS WHERE BEAUTY LIES? by AGNES STEWART BECK

First Line: DOES THE HARSH-TONED VOICE OF THE CROW
Last Line: THINK YOU?
Subject(s): ADMIRATION; BEAUTY;

Does the harsh-toned voice of the crow
Bear a note of beauty?
"No," you say, "Not so,
He has no song to sing."
But doesn't the iridescent show
Of his feathers bear a something
Of beauty under the sun's bright glow,
Think you?

Does the harsh-toned voice of her
The toothless harridan wrangling
Over the fence incur
Unveiled contempt in you,
Not one fine feather to stir
A spark of admiration,
Can there be nothing at all for her,
Think you?

Might not there be a kindly touch
In her hands
For little children, the aged and such,
Think you?
