SANCTUARY by JOSIE CRAIG BERRY

First Line: AN EAGLE SOARED THE BLUE IMMENSITY
Last Line: WILL EAGLES FIND THEIR ROCK IN ALIEN LAND?
Subject(s): BIRDS; EAGLES; SANCTUARIES;

An eagle soared the blue immensity
Of awful heights to find a quiet place
To rear his eaglets; but in all that space
He found no spot of true tranquility.
Wars were upon the land -- storms on the sea;
These perils sinister, he could not face
When 'neath his wing, the promise of his race
Lay close -- his bid for immortality.
The isles were leveled by the hurricane,
The cities, run by human beasts of prey;
The country isolation served in vain
To keep the dangers of the night away ...
When home holds not a firm, protecting hand,
Will eagles find their rock in alien land?
