NOCTURNE by RUTH E. BILLEY

First Line: OVER WIDE MEADOWS AWAY FROM THE TOWN
Last Line: WATCH THE LOST SHADOWS OF WINTER TAKE WING.
Subject(s): DUSK;

Over wide meadows away from the town
Smoke from the brush fires sifts leisurely down.
Serenely a star in the sky overhead
Moves through the twilight with silvery tread.

Songs by the edge of a glimmering pool
Are heralding spring as dusk becomes cool.
Out in the meadows sweet scented with spring ...
Watch the lost shadows of winter take wing.
