RAIN POOL by BEATRICE MARY BILLING

First Line: ALL YESTERDAY IT RAINED
Last Line: HOW SHALLOW DEPTHS REFLECT INFINITY.
Subject(s): RAIN;

All yesterday it rained
And now tonight
The rain pool fills the street
With quivering light,
Holding in shallow depths
The evening sky,
Red-flecked with sunset
And dark birds that fly
Around the old stone church on tower and tree.

Tomorrow
All the pavement will be dry;
No trembling vision of the earth and sky
Will stir the passer-by
To quick delight
As on this rain-splashed
Gleaming street tonight.

And leave me wondering at the mystery ...
How shallow depths reflect infinity.
