THE PIRATEER by HARRY RANDOLPH BLYTHE

First Line: THE LIGHTNING FLASHED AND THUNDER CRASHED
Last Line: LAY STILL IN A SECRET SEA.
Subject(s): PIRATES; SEASHORE; SHIPS & SHIPPING; PIRACY; BUCCANEERS; BEACH; COAST; SHORE;

THE lightning flashed and thunder crashed,
And the foam flew high that day,
When the black-flagged ship and her treasure hoard
Sank down in a stormless sea.

The great guns cried and brave men died,
And the fight was hot that day,
When the outlaw and her pirate lord
Went deep to a lifeless sea.

The bright sun beamed and still waves gleamed,
When the divers searched next day;
But the treasure-ship and all on board
Lay still in a secret sea.
