THE ARTIST TO HIS WIFE by STANLEY KILNER BOOTH

First Line: FOR ALWAYS THERE SHALL BE A QUEST
Last Line: WHILE LOVING YOU, IRREVOCABLY EXILED.
Subject(s): ART & ARTISTS;

For always there shall be a quest,
Even though I haunt the unnumbered planets,
Among far-distant heavens, an immortal guest.

I will seek all the unseen flowers,
And finger all the mellifluent bars of unknown melodies, loveliest
When intoned within the serene bowers of the unpossessed.

Nothing will requite my eternal hunger,
Even though I sip the nectar of Olympian spice
That gods have tasted and left undefiled.
And though I reach the very heights of Paradise
And never know a greater love or a more glowing wonder
Than your sweet devotion, I will still remain
While loving you, irrevocably exiled.
