The world is crowded with clever chaps Who, given some work to do@3perhaps@1 Will finish the job in season; But who will probably stall and shirk, Postpone, procrastinate, dodge the work For any old sort of reason; But the Other Kindthey are precious few Are the fellows who hop right to it The men who do what they say they'll do At the time that they say they'll do it! Oh, the time we waste and the nerves we fray With the folks who promise a job @3to-day@1 And bring it in three days later! There's nobody causes so much of pain As the chap whose promise is wholly vain The chronic procrastinator! How welcome then is the toiler who Having started a task, gets through it, The man who does what he says he'll do At the time that he says he'll do it! He may be plodding, he may be slow But when he gets on the job, you know He'll finish iton the minute; And because he's true to his word and task, He'll get whatever he cares to ask Of the world and the wealth that's in it. Success will follow his efforts through He never will have to woo it This man who does what he says he'll do At the time that he says he'll do it! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HIRAM POWERS' GREEK SLAVE by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING THE OLD SANTA FE TRAIL by RICHARD EUGENE BURTON STANZAS ON THE DEATH OF A FRIEND by REGINALD HEBER THE WAVING OF THE CORN by SIDNEY LANIER TALES OF A WAYSIDE INN: THE THIRD DAY: AZRAEL by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW |
