THE NEW HUDIBRAS by CHARLES WILLIAM BRODRIBB

First Line: WHEN PRINTS GREW BLUER THAN THE SKY
Last Line: CALL FOR HIS CUDGEL AND HIS BEAVER.
Subject(s): ECONOMICS; HUDIBRAS (BUTLER); REVOLUTIONS; UTOPIA;

When prints grew bluer than the sky
And smug men filled the M.o.I.;
When Ministries, sprung up like mushrooms,
Took on new typists and hush-hush rooms;
When science dehydration cried up
With powdered eggs and turnips dried up;
When postmen in the act of leverage
Stopped short to boost Utopia's beverage,
When bankers were proclaimed as comics
By London School of Economics;
When revolution was demanded
By alien leftists lately landed:
Then did John Bull, the unbeliever,
Call for his cudgel and his beaver.
