STUBBLE by MARGARET E. BRUNER

First Line: I LIKE A FIELD OF STUBBLE WHERE THE WHEAT
Last Line: THAT MAN HAS GAINED REWARD FOR FAITH AND TOIL.

I like a field of stubble where the wheat
Is in the shock and heavy with its yield,
For then the earth seems resting and replete
With peace, and yet there plainly is revealed
In some strange manner by the quiet soil,
That man has gained reward for faith and toil.
