THE YOUNG MOTHER by KAY CAMMACK

First Line: FROM WHAT STRANGE JOURNEY AM I SAFE RETURNED
Last Line: KNOWING LOVE CONQUERETH.
Subject(s): MOTHERS;

FROM what strange journey am I safe returned,
So wearied, yet content;
These eyes still darkened with the mists of Death,
All strength and courage spent,
Yet with such strange, sweet stirring in my breast--
Such rapture, Heaven-sent.

Shrinking, I left broad day and took the road
Which led me close to Death,
But curved about me were strong Angel wings
Defying his chill breath
As I snatched up my Joy and homeward drew,
Knowing Love conquereth.
