WEST 58TH STREET by MELVILLE CANE

First Line: TONIGHT / FROM THIS HIGH WINDOW
Last Line: SNARL AND PREY AND DEVOUR.
Subject(s): NEW YORK CITY; TAXIS; MANHATTAN; NEW YORK, NEW YORK; THE BIG APPLE;

To-night,
From this high window,
Above that softened roof-line !
A dry blue star quivers and throbs and quivers.
Lower, mistier,
A string of three swing in a cool grey curve.
Behind that squatty water-tank ( "
A slicm of moon suspends, of silver and steel. ) !
!
Farther west *
Electric signs are glittering rhinestone plaoets.
Endless rows and rows of yellow oblongs
Hide identical kitkhenetted souls. ( !
Down the street
A pack of wolfish taxis,!eyes of fire, ! &
(
Snarl and prey and devour.
